Food Photography 101

Tips to Improve Your Food Photography:

1) Use proper lighting when shooting:

You probably heard about lighting a lot, so that shows you how important it is in photography. in a matter of fact, the most important thing after the camera (and lens) is light, I could argue that it es even as important as the camera since if you have no light you basically have no image and vise versa.

2) Build up the set

what do I mean when I say build up the set? many photographers after cooking the dish just throw everything on the table ad add a bit of props to add to the frame, which is nice, however, try to place the main dish then add the lighting to the main dish to get the most important things first then you could add the props and add more lighting as needed.

3) inspiration

getting started in food photography it is hard to get an eye-catching image, we’ve all been there. Fixing that problem is very easy to start following as many photographers as you can not only photographers that match your style you could also follow people that aren’t matching your style this way you open your eyes to different ways you can style your photos and food.

4) Backdrops

it can get boring if you keep using the same table cloth or wood table every time you shoot. I really recommend buying backdrops either from amazon, savage backdrops simple solid colors can be really amazing. another choice you have is going into websites like Etsy and buying handmade ones try might be more expensive however handmade ones have more texture which makes your photo pop more.
